Graduate Studies will offer a Responsible Conduct of Research workshop with Shannon E. French, the Inamori Professor of Ethics and director of the Inamori International Center for Ethics and Excellence. French will present, “Ethics for Graduate and Professional Students: Getting Beyond Knowing the Rules to Living a Good Life” on June 26 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Inamori Center, located on the ground floor of Crawford Hall.
All graduate and professional students are invited to attend the dynamic, interactive workshop to increase their familiarity with the major schools of thought in the field of ethics in the western philosophical tradition and provide them with tools for moral reasoning that can help them determine what is the right thing to do in complex situations with many ethical dimensions.
The presentation will explore character and motivation, including how virtues and vices are developed and why good people sometimes make bad choices, and discuss how to apply ethical theory in real life, both as students and in future careers.
This workshop will be accessible to students from any discipline, with abstract principles always being tied back to reality.
Free lunch will be provided.
