New bus route offers service to rapid station during commuter hours

To provide commuters with easier, safer access to the new Cedar–University Circle Red Line Rapid access point on the south side of Cedar Hill, the university has developed an interim bus route that begins today.

The bus, labeled “Cedar Rapid Express,” will run from 6:15 to 8:45 a.m. and 3:15 to 5:45 p.m. The bus route will run from the rapid station on Cedar Avenue to Crawford Hall and back, including stops at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. It will run Monday through Friday on a continuous loop, every 10 minutes, and it is scheduled to align with the rapid’s arrival and departure times.

How often does it run? Is it specifically designed to drop people off at each scheduled rapid time? Which bus am I looking for (there are a number of buses and shuttles that stop at Rainbow)?

Hi Heather! I just got the following information and have updated the article accordingly:

It will run Monday through Friday on a continuous loop, every 10 minutes, and they are trying to time it with the rapid’s arrival and departure times. The sign on the side states “Cedar Rapid Express.”

      I hope this helps!

Nice to see that an “interim” route has been added and hopefully we can get some more information on the drop off/pick up location at the actual rapid station as that is seriously lacking. Additionally, what are the chances of having an “interim” route added to the E.120th street station during the same hours as it is also used by many commuters. The Route B shuttle does service that area as well but it is always leaving the designated stop as the train is pulling in.

Something else to ponder, get the people that actually use these services to provide some input, believe it or not, we do have some valuable insight.

Hi Todd! The dropoff/pickup location will be at the Stokes and Cedar RTA turnaround. The route will run every 10 minutes.

Unfortunately, the Route B shuttle that services the E. 120th Street station cannot be tied into the train’s arrival because of the numerous other stops it makes.

So If I get to work at 6:30 because of the 6:15 shuttle, I am done at 3, but the shuttle doesnt run until 3:15, so I have to wait for the 3:41 train since I will miss the 3:21 train. Any way that they can start the shuttle at 3 instead of 3:15?
